Privacy Policy

Who we are (data controller)

School Pledge is operated by Freastar. We are the data controller for information collected through this platform. If you have any questions about how your data is used, contact us at hello@freastar.com.

What data we collect and why

School registration

School name, county, contact name, and contact email. Used to create the school's pledge link, manage settings, and allow the school contact to log in to the dashboard.

Parent pledges

Parent email address (stored in lowercase, used only to prevent duplicate pledges from the same parent at the same school), number of children covered by the pledge, class groups selected, and optionally a reason category. No child names are collected at any point.

Usage analytics

We use Firebase Analytics to record anonymous page-view data (pages visited, approximate country). No personally identifiable information is included in analytics events.

No child names collected

We do not ask for, store, or display the names of any children. A pledge records only the number of children and their class group — nothing that identifies an individual child.

Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

  • Consent — parents and schools give explicit consent via the checkbox on each form before any data is submitted.
  • Legitimate interests — aggregate, anonymous statistics are compiled to help schools and parents understand participation levels across Ireland. No individual is identifiable from this data.

Public statistics

Public statistics show totals only — number of pledges, number of children covered, class group breakdowns — never data that could identify a family or individual. Schools may choose to keep their statistics private, in which case no data for that school is shown on public pages.

Data storage and transfers

Data is stored in Google Firebase Firestore, hosted in the European Union (eur3 multi-region, Belgium/Netherlands). Google LLC acts as a data processor under a Data Processing Agreement with Freastar. Data is not sold or shared with any other third parties.

Data retention

Pledge data is retained for as long as the associated school is active on the platform. School records are retained for the duration of the school's registration. You may request deletion at any time (see below).

Your rights under GDPR

  • Access — you can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — you can ask us to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Restriction — you can ask us to limit how we use your data.
  • Portability — you can request your data in a portable format.
  • Objection — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests.

To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@freastar.com. We will respond within 30 days.

How to request deletion

Parents can request removal of their pledge by emailing us with the email address used to submit the pledge and the name of the school. Schools can request full removal of their school record and all associated pledge data. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
